As we approach Christmas, set our focus on Jesus afresh and prepare our hearts to remember His coming, we cannot do this without recognising and reflecting on the 'thrill of hope’. Jesus is the One who brings good news to the poor, liberty to the captives, the opening of prison to the bound, comfort to those who mourn, light to those who are in darkness, and hope to those in despair. Biblically speaking, hope is not just an optimistic outlook or wishful thinking without any foundation, but confident expectation of good based on solid certainty. As followers of Jesus, we are called to be people who abound in hope. A people whose hope is unshakeable because it is founded upon Jesus - the hope of the world - not a circumstance or an outcome. A people who hold onto our hope because when our hope is in Jesus, it does not disappoint us or put us to shame. Is the thrill of hope alive in your heart, or is it a distant glimmer? May the Lord ignite fresh hope in your heart this Christmas!
Family Matters
Matthew Chapter 1 — As Matthew begins his gospel he places the coming of messiah firmly within the context of family. Scripture continually reveals a God who covenants with family, works through families, and fulfils his promises through family. Having said that, Matthews family tree is not a picture of perfect families, rather it is a picture of perfected grace working in the midst of imperfect people. As we approach a time when family becomes front and centre join us as we rediscover Gods great plan for family and allow God's grace to be perfected in the midst of our families.
Habakkuk - The Pathway to Praise
Habakkuk finishes by declaring the praises of his God. To often our sorrows become a pool to wallow in rather than a pathway that leads to praise. Sorrow and disappointment becomes an end in itself, rather than a means to an end. That end being a fresh encounter with the living God. Join us as we discover how Habakkuk finishes his journey and uncovers this 'pathway to praise'.
How To Be Great
Mark10:35-44 — Most of us would like to live more than a mediocre life, but how do we live great life? In Mark 10 we read an account of Jesus addressing this very issue with His disciples. In an upside down Kingdom where firsts are last and lasts first, and up is down and down up, Jesus reveals greatness is the Kingdom is measured by servanthood. So what does it mean to be a servant? It is completely possible to do all the christian activities and not be servant hearted because at its core serving as a Christian is a heart issue more than a doing issue. It is worth taking time to examine our hearts and our motives in order that we might seek after God’s heart and represent Him well as His servant hearted Kids.
Habakkuk - True Faith
Framed within the discourse of justice and sovereignty a picture emerges of a faithful life lived in faithless times. Habakkuk quickly realises that the near future would lack visibly manifest reasons to believe, leaving only faith in God’s promise. This promise would become a refuge, when it appeared that every other means of refuge would be removed. Join us as we discover this picture of true faith, built not upon temporary pleasures, but drawing strength from the permanent promise of the living God.
